System 395 for profile grooving
Horn is expanding its tool range with the new Type 395 indexable insert. The horizontally-orientated, three-edged cutter is suitable for profile grooving and turning custom threads. With this new system, Horn offers a cost-effective yet flexible solution for demanding internal and external turning operations.
What sets the new Type 395 apart is the positioning of the indexable insert. Unlike in conventional systems, the insert does not rest against the periphery but is positioned in specially designed grooves. This opens up entirely new possibilities for profile design. The insert can be profiled almost freely, enabling customised tool solutions for a wide variety of customer requirements. The precision-ground cutting edges ensure a high level of process reliability. At the same time, the large contact surface of the indexable insert in the direction of the cutting force guarantees stable clamping in the toolholder. This has a positive effect on tool life, surface quality and process stability.

With three usable cutting edges, the new type 395 indexable insert also enhances cost-effectiveness in profile grooving and threading. The inserts can be customised to customer specifications and can optionally be manufactured with a chip-breaker groove. The tool coating is individually tailored to the specific application. Horn also prioritises high flexibility when it comes to toolholders. Various custom designs, such as boring bars or square shank toolholders, can be precisely adapted to the respective machining task.
Two blank sizes are available for the new Type 395, including a completely newly developed variant. Horn is thus expanding its portfolio with a high-performance tool system for complex profiling and threading operations with stringent demands on precision and cost-effectiveness.
